2012 Obituary

Actress/Singer/Dancer Katherine Hopkins Nicholas, widow of dance legend Fayard Nicholas, lost her battle with cancer on August 15. Katherine, a resident of Toluca Lake for 25 years, was born in Los Angeles on November 7, 1950 to actor Bob Hopkins and actress Mavis Russell Hopkins.

She was featured in the Weire Brothers comedy act going on to stage roles in 42nd Street, Jake’s Women and being an integral part in Sugar Babies with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller whom she replaced when Miller was ill. She did the Princess Cruise circuit and even worked Disney Tokyo.

Among her numerous television appearances were General Hospital, Glee, Police Woman, BionicWoman, Starsky & Hutch, comedy sketches on Merv Griffin & Donny & Marie, etc. In recent years, Fayard and Katherine made several appearances in cabarets with their club act and were always available to do charity events. After her husband’s death, she produced and performed in a Tribute to The Nicholas Brothers during Black History Month at the Hollywood Bar & Grill.

Survivors include her cousins Richard & Corinne Leone,, Miami, FL and Vicky Scott, Jacksonville, FL

Interment will take place at 2:00 pm. on Friday, August 24 at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park and Mortuary in North Hollywood,

On October 6, a memorial service will be held at the Self Realization Fellowship Temple in Hollywood at 1:30 PM
