M.A.C.H. 1's first adventure in 2000 AD #1 (1977)

M.A.C.H. 1 is a recurring title in the British anthology comic magazine, 2000 AD about British Secret Service agent, John Probe who undergoes an experimental surgery and becomes the first Man Activated by Compu-Puncture Hyperpower — giving him superhuman abilities, including super strength and speed. His codename is, "M.A.C.H. 1," naturally.

Character History[]

John Probe receives increasing high-voltages from electro-needles giving him the strength of 20 men. Computer circuits printed directly on his skull allow him to learn new skills instantly. But the process costs him memories of his past, and he needs booster shots of the energy to stay alive. Later, he meets M.A.C.H. Zero, his predecessor and the first enhanced human. He also battles M.A.C.H 2, a robot built to succeed him. Over the ourse of the run, John becomes increasingly suspicious of the British Secret Service and his superior, Denis Sharpe, which culminates in a final battle during an alien invasion.
