I just don't understand why they could not have given her another set of adoptive parents?  Seems silly and complicated that the writers had her adopted by Steve's step-father (even complicating the relationship further IMO) and real mom. It made the entire storyline kind of icky. I mean she is essentially in love with and engaged to marry her brother.
